Egg Donation

What does egg donation mean?

Egg donation is when a woman (donor) gives her eggs to another woman (recipient) to allow the recipient to have a baby. To donate eggs, the donor must be given medications that will cause her to develop multiple eggs over a single cycle. The eggs are then removed from the donor by placing a needle that is attached to an ultrasound probe through the vaginal tissues. The eggs are then gently aspirated (suctioned) from the ovaries. Once the eggs are removed, they are evaluated by an embryologist. Then sperm from the male partner or a sperm bank is placed around or injected into each egg. This process is called in vitro fertilization .

Who should consider being a donor egg?

The person who is young less then 35 years old.

With all the test done with no endocrine disorder like thyroid, diabetes. Thalesemia and hypertension. karyotyping is performed to see there is no other abnormality, we can perform whole genome sequencing if the biological parents wants to be completely sure that the donor is not carrying any abnormality. She should be married and have kids to prove her fertility.

Who needs the donor eggs?

Who have premature ovarian failure, poor egg quality in patients with endometriosis, severe resisitant pcos patients with bad egg quality, elderly female with low Amh and high Fsh and young patients who have undergone 3 ovum pick up cycles and have not conceived with good quality eggs, abnormal embryos on pgs.

Can I bring my own donor ?

ICMR guidelines don’t allow a know donor ,as she can ask to see the baby always anyomynous donor are selected and she must be completely evaluated and have her own children but sister can donate eggs to her sister with all legal work done

How many times the egg donor can donate eggs?

Maximum of 6 times with a gap of 3 months she can donate eggs and not more than that.
